Dot NAME Domain Names

Established in 2001, the Dot NAME universal extension is the only one supposed to be for personal web pages only. These domains can be personal or fictitious names, aliases and/or other titles people are known by. Initially, solely third-level registrations were permitted, so if you wanted to obtain john.doe.name, you had to do that under .doe.name. In 2004, however, the registration procedures were loosened and 2nd-level registrations were also allowed. Already taken third-level domains remained functional.
