If you want to direct a domain address that you have to another domain name or subdomain, one of the ways to do this would be to use a CNAME record. By creating such a record, the domain name being forwarded loses all its records (A, MX, etc) and instead, it takes the A record of the Internet domain it's directed to. In this way, if you are using a web design service by some company that gives you a subdomain, you can use an actual domain name and not only will it be forwarded to the site which you have created, but it will also appear in the browser address bar at all times. Other possible uses of a CNAME record are to direct all the targeted traffic from various subdomains to their main domain, or to use the webmail service of your webhosting company by using webmail.your-doman.com, for instance. The latter will work only by setting up a CNAME record for a subdomain since this kind of a record created for the main domain name makes it impossible to use email addresses.

If you have a website hosting plan through our company and you want to set up a CNAME record, it'll take you only a few mouse clicks to do it. You can access the DNS records for all domain names and subdomains hosted within your account through the Hepsia Control Panel offered with every single plan and adding a new record is as simple as clicking on a button, selecting the type, that will be CNAME in this case, entering the actual record value and saving the modification. If you've never added such a record before, we have a Help section with a detailed video tutorial which you can watch, or you can just contact us and we will help you with this task. If you have created a site via another company, you want to use a private URL for your webmail or you want to designate a subdomain for use with the services of a different company, like Google Apps, all it takes is setting up a CNAME record with a couple of clicks within your CP.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

The Hepsia hosting Control Panel, which comes with every single one of our semi-dedicated server accounts, allows you to set up a CNAME record without difficulty. In case you want to create a private URL for your e-mails, to point a domain name to a subdomain in the account or to forward a domain address to another provider and use some third-party service which they provide, it's not going to take you more than three mouse clicks to create such a record. All DNS records for the domain names and subdomains hosted inside the semi-dedicated account are going to be listed in a separate section in the CP, so when you are there, all that you will have to do will be to select the type of the record that you want to set up and the hostname for which you are creating it, and then enter the actual record text. For your convenience, you can see a short video within the Control Panel on how to create a CNAME record or you can follow the instructions in the help article, that's available in the DNS records section.
